Alternative Work Outs!
Ok alternative may be the wrong word here, but less commonly known or done doesnt slide as well off the tongue now does it?  That being said I’m perfectly aware that people still do these (or else I wouldnt be posting them now would I?) All of these can either be learned on your own, or classes for them arent as hard to find as you may think. So give a few to try if your looking for new (fun) ways to get moving!

Aerial Yoga

I’ve just started working on this one and phew is it a lot of fun! You can try courses that are to help you strengthen your muscles, or classes specifically for stretching. It can feel as good as a massage on a body sore from working out. And if your struggling with your flexibility in a normal yoga class, the benefit of the swing used in arial yoga (or ropes) really helps you push that extra bit and is a great asset. And dont be intimidated! It’s for beginner Yoga enthusiasts too! 

Pole Dancing

No I’m not talking the stuff they do in that shady strip club down the street. This is an actual (very hard to do) work out!  While a lot of moves are still done in a suggestive manner, dont let it turn you off. This stuff is harder than it looks and will have you sweating and challenging yourself with new moves all the time. Great on your flexibility, and a hard work out when you really get going practicing new spins and I’m not even going to get into climbing (that stuffs hard for a beginner like me!) but I really recommend it if you think your up for it! It’s so much fun and one of the best work outs I’ve had, letting me feel exhausted but proud of myself when I’m done. See if you can find a place near you that offers courses! 

Hooping

This can be a skilled art form, and you’ll be burning calories while practicing it! Hooping is more for just those cute kids in the park twirling the hoop around their hips. You can dance with these things, with really cool tricks a hooping session can look steller awesome and keep you moving your body the whole time! Talk about a cardio work out. Best part? You can teach yourself! Classes on this are offered on occasion but most people that I know who do it taught themselves by looking up trick tutorials on youtube, or inventing their own. It really is a great work out, and while some tricks and stunts may look hard, with a bit of practice you can be hooping as good as the others! So go give it a try! Hoops arent hard to find, sporting good stores will carry them or you can find them online. Remember though youre not going to want the ones with water or beads in them, if you can find ones specifically meant for hoop dancing or hoop exercise. Now go out and get hooping!

Ballroom Dance/Swing Dance/Dancing in general! 

Dont write out the ball room dances just because they are slower, less moves, dont look as exhausting as your ZUMBA or Hip Hop classes. While you wont be burning as many calories as a cardio class, these dances can get you going! Depending on your dance you can be constantly moving at a fast pace turning different ways all the time (like Swing after you’ve had some classes) or you can be gracefully traveling through out the room in a set of steps (Waltzing) either way the ballroom dances are a great way to get in that work out when your not feeling the same amount of energy to go tackle that cardio work out. Though they will still take lots of energy too! Go give them a try, you’ll need a partner if you want to do it on your own, or you can go find a class in town!
